MKVToolNix 51.0.0 is a video format that is quite widely used today, especially for the distribution of high-quality (Hight Definition / HD) video movies on the internet, with a fairly small size but can display HD quality videos. Files generated from MKVToolNix can be played back with various media players under Linux / UNIX, or with the Matroska Direct Show filter under Windows operating systems. The main tools are mkvmerge, mkvextract, mkvinfo, mmg and mkvpropedit. While the mkvmerge component can be used to combine two or more multimedia streams into a single Matroska file, the mkvextract tool will split an MKV file into separate streams. Apart from that, the mkvextract program can be used to extract audio, subtitles and video tracks, chapters, tags, CUE sheets, attachments and timecode from Matroska files. Currently, it supports the following track types: H.264 / AVC, RealVideo, Theora, VP8 / VP9, MP2, MP3, AC3, Raw PCM, AAC, OGG Vorbis, TrueAudio, ALAC, FLAC, WavPack, Opus, SSA, ASS, Kate, VobSub, and USF.
